to Portsmouth Historic Dockyard.
Nigel Linger, of Hayling Branch, a Director and Trustee of the ‘Portsmouth Royal Dockyard Historical Trust’ a registered Charity, has offered to give members a private guided tour of the Historic site. As he shares some fascinating stories and insights across the many and varied ages of this historic site, from the workforce of Henry VIII in the 15th Century to the steam age and how Portsmouth dockyard led the world during the Industrial Revolution.
Along with the now infamous arson attack of 1776 to aid the American War of Independence effort, to what Admiral Lord Nelson did on his very last day in England before embarking on VICTORY for Trafalgar 1805. You add to all this the WWI & II experiences and on to the 1982 Falklands campaign, all of which have contributed to the rich legacy that has made Portsmouth the world-famous site it is today.
The cafés in Boat House No4 and 7 have a wide range of refreshments available along with the normal facilities should you wish to rest and recuperate following your tour. Comfortable walking footwear is strongly advised, though it is mostly on the flat.
